Patterns3 is the third collaboration at The Three Hares Gallery between artists Lucy Mathers and Susan Webb. They both continue to explore and play with patterns and colours, each in their own distinct, yet complementary style.
In this exhibition the artworks range from abstract to contemporary still life, exploring patterns in place.
Susan and Lucy both work mainly in acrylics, incorporating collage paper (both found and hand-made), inks, charcoal, water-based media and oils. A truly mixed-media experience!
Lucy Mathers
Lucy is a life-long problem-solver with a passion for patterns.
The noticing of and search for patterns in everyday life keeps her grounded. The familiar and the unfamiliar, unexpected changes or breaks in pattern. Patterns in unexpected places. They help or hinder what can be seen.
Working from her home studio in Northamptonshire, she aims to integrate storytelling, memories and observation of the world with a healthy dose of imagination. Each painting develops by working out how best to tell its story through the application of acrylic paint, home-made collage papers and other media.
A former senior lecturer and National Teacher Fellow at De Montfort University, she now runs bespoke workshops in gel plate printing and collage from her studio.

Susan Webb
Susan is an amateur artist, whose move to Cambridge last year has invigorated her work.
Her art is full of colour and joy: inspired by flowers, foliage and the shapes and patterns found in nature. While mainly working in acrylic paint, she also explores many other mediums, including collage, printing and sketching.
You can see more of Susan’s work in July, when she will be taking part in Cambridge Open Studios.
