National Gardens Scheme Open Gardens Weekend

National Gardens Scheme Open Gardens Weekend

Open Gardens Weekend supporting National Garden Scheme (NGS).  The Cowper & Newton Museum Gardens are open in support of the National Gardens Scheme.
(Please note that previously purchased Adult Annual Tickets are NOT VALID for visiting the gardens on 10th and 11th June. They are valid for visiting the Historic House ONLY on Saturday).

Visit our beautiful, tranquil Flower Garden and Summer House Garden. The tranquil Flower Garden of the 18th century poet, William Cowper, who said ‘Gardening was of all employments, that in which I succeeded best’, has plants introduced prior to his death in 1800, many mentioned in his writings. The Summer House Garden with Cowper’s ‘verse manufactory’, now a Victorian Kitchen Garden, has new and heritage vegetables organically grown, also a herb border and medicinal plant bed.

Both gardens are managed organically, and wildlife is encouraged by providing suitable habitats, with perhaps the exception of pigeons!

It is hoped to have lacemaking demonstrations, artists painting and other activities in the gardens for additional interest to your visit.

Refreshments on sale too!
