Quackery & Enlightenment – a journey through Georgian medicine

Quackery & Enlightenment – a journey through Georgian medicine

Quackery & Enlightenment – a journey through Georgian medicine. Discover what your doctor may have given you 250 years ago.

Whilst exploring inside our historic house, see our new temporary exhibition ‘Quackery & Enlightenment – A journey through Georgian medicine’ from which you will discover Scottish physician, William Buchan, who was on a mission to educate the Georgian population on health and the dangers of quack medicine. Come and explore new stories throughout the Museum associated with medical care in Cowper and Newton’s time, including the ledgers kept by Mrs Unwin’s physician Dr Grindon of Olney.

Exhibition and children’s trail will run throughout 2021 during usual opening hours.

Admission to this exhibition is included in your Museum entry ticket.
