Relive Georgian life at the home of William Cowper, renowned 18th century poet. Discover how his friend John Newton’s life and personal experiences inspired him to write the world’s most famous hymn ‘Amazing Grace’ in Olney. 

Wander through the 18th century Flower and Summer House Gardens. Don’t miss poet William Cowper’s Summer House, his ‘Verse Manufactory’, surrounded by medicinal plants and heritage fruit and vegetables.

Visit our fascinating historic house, beautiful gardens, gallery exhibitions and shop on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. (Please note 7th -8th June – separate garden entry fee applies in support of the National Garden Scheme. Walk-ins available on the day.).

Purchase an Annual Ticket for the House & Gardens for £10.00. A Garden Day Ticket is £4. Gallery exhibitions are free entry. For National Art Pass, Gardeners’ World and Museum Association card holders please note that tickets already have the relevant discount applied. eg Gardener’s World tickets are discounted to £5.00 per person for entrance to the Museum & Gardens and £2 per person for Garden Only visits.

Children age 15 and under are free but please book their ticket.

We are able to take walk-ins on the day but please be patient as only 6 visitors advisable per room into the Historic House.

Passholders are recommended to book entry ticket online to speed up admission process on arrival. You must show your pass on arrival, or your booking will not be valid.

Access requirements

The Shop, Courtyard and Viper Barn are accessible by wheelchair and mobility scooter users. Entrance is also available via the alleyway to the right of the main entrance from the street. Our Viper Barn has interactive AV equipment for your enjoyment. Please be aware that some paths in both gardens are very narrow and others have high, uneven concrete surfaces and sharp right-angle turning points. Unsuitable for wheelchair and mobility scooter users unless accompanied. Guide dogs, hearing dogs and medical detection dogs are allowed in the museum and gardens. No other dogs are permitted inside the building or beyond the Courtyard.

Book Museum Tickets

Our Museum building remains CLOSED.  We are opening our gardens on limited entry.  The Cowper & Newton Museum gardens will be open to welcome you on Wednesday 5th August 10.30 – 12.15 and Saturday 8th August 10.30 – 12.15
