Pancake Race Day – open morning

Pancake Race Day – open morning at the Cowper & Newton Museum

See us out and about in costume enjoying Olney’s Pancake Race event.

Did you know that no one really knows the origins of the world famous Pancake Race at Olney, but it is a long and loved tradition in the town. Within the Museum collection are two hand bells. One is fragile and retired but the other still rings out loudly to start the race.

Open today:

  • Museum Shop with Pancake Race volunteer homemade gifts for sale!
  • Flower Garden and Summer House Garden
  • Viper Barn with introductory video.

The museum historic rooms remain closed until the new season officially begins on Tuesday 20th February 2024.

Volunteering opportunities!  Come and say hello to us!  If you are thinking of volunteering with us this year, pop into our shop to speak to our volunteers who will be able to tell you more about this rewarding role.

Opening times today:  10am until 1:30pm with free entry to the gardens (the main museum remains closed for one more week, whilst we get our new exhibition ready).
