Olney and District Local History Day

A fascinating programme of talks and discussions.

PROGRAMME:  

10:30  Arrival

11-12pm  Lecture 1: Early Olney History to the Medieval Period – Tom Jones (formation of the town).  Discussion.

12-1:30pm BREAK (Feel free to bring a picnic)

1:30-2pm  Local Lacemaker History – Marion Swindells

2-3pm Lecture 2:  Medieval period to the present day.  Discussion.

4:30pm  END

Only able to attend part of the day? No problem, please come and go at your leisure to this event.

We will have ‘Show and Tell’ time within the programme.  Have you got artefacts, photographs of interesting features in your house, in fact any interesting knowledge of Olney and our surrounding villages, to share with us?  We’d be delighted to learn from you.  Local historian, Elizabeth Knight will be here to try to answer any questions for you.

Enjoy a stroll through the Flower Garden, to this event which will be held in the marquee in our Summerhouse garden.

FREE ENTRY to the gardens in which the Olney and District Local History Day will take place – donations always most welcome towards the upkeep of our Museum.

Usual admission applies to see inside the historic house.

Our Museum building remains CLOSED.  We are opening our gardens on limited entry.  The Cowper & Newton Museum gardens will be open to welcome you on Wednesday 5th August 10.30 – 12.15 and Saturday 8th August 10.30 – 12.15
