Sierra Leone: Sierra-ously Surprising

The Cowper & Newton Museum are excited to be working with the Milton Keynes based Sierra Leone Community and The Olney-Newton Link, to invite you to an exhibition within the museum’s Three Hares Gallery. All part of the Amazing Grace 250 Anniversary, “Sierra Leone: Sierra-ously Surprising” will give you a real insight Sierra Leone. The exhibition promises showcase an eclectic mix of traditional items from the West African country, including brightly coloured dress-ware, masks, musical instruments and even an opportunity to learn and play “Awale”, a traditional Sierra Leonian table-top game. Our interpretation also includes QR codes, to give you an opportunity to find out more about some of the items on display, including how some are made. The Olney-Newton Link, a charity based in Olney, are sharing some of the work they have been doing to improve infrastructure and education in the town of Newton, in Sierra Leone. The exhibition is completely free to enter and runs from Saturday 3rd December 2022 until Thursday 30th March 2023. Please check the museum opening times on our website. Suitable for both children and adults.

Our Museum building remains CLOSED.  We are opening our gardens on limited entry.  The Cowper & Newton Museum gardens will be open to welcome you on Wednesday 5th August 10.30 – 12.15 and Saturday 8th August 10.30 – 12.15
