A Lecture Recital on Amazing Grace with Dr Martin Clarke

Join Dr Martin Clarke, Head of Music at the Open University, for a unique opportunity to attend a lecture recital at St Peter & St Paul Church, Olney. Through the hymn “Amazing Grace”, Dr Clarke will highlight some important points in the history of congregational singing in British churches and will include some solo organ pieces based on ‘New Britain’, the familiar melody for ‘Amazing Grace’. This event promises to be a fantastic learning opportunity though lecture, performance and singing participation from the audience!

Dr Clarke’s primary research interests lies in the relationships between music and theology, and especially their articulation in music and religious practice in Britain since the eighteenth century, and in the Methodist movement more widely.  Further information can be found here: Dr Martin Clarke | OU people profiles (open.ac.uk)
