Exhibit with us at The Three Hares Art Gallery

The Three Hares Gallery at the Cowper & Newton Museum gives a warm welcome to artists wishing to display their artworks with us.  To date, we have held exhibitions of watercolours, acrylics, oils, pastels, drawings, prints, photography and textiles, including tapestries and patchwork. For 2021 the Gallery is in a bright new space, with direct stair access from our Shop.

Exhibitions in the Gallery are for one month. The hire fee is £99 (£75 for February or December) and the Gallery receives 15% commission on any works sold (All hire fees and commission received goes directly towards the upkeep of the Museum).

During the summer months (May to August) it may also be possible to hold a preview/reception in our Courtyard/Gardens (for which an additional hire charge applies) so that you can entertain friends, family, fellow artists and members of the art community in order to promote your work.

We will assist you where we can with local publicity and provide you with contacts to bring your event to the attention of a wide audience.   We also promote Gallery exhibitions on our website and through social media and by placing leaflets in prominent places within Olney and surrounding villages.  We can also supply you with a media list to help you with your pre-exhibition publicity.

We are now open for bookings for.  If you are interested in discussing holding an exhibition with us, or would like further information, please email the Gallery Manager at threeharesgallery@cowperandnewtonmuseum.org.uk

The Three Hares Art Gallery

Named after the three pet hares, Tiney, Bess and Puss, kept by William Cowper at his home which is now the Museum, the Three Hares Art Gallery was opened in 2007.  Its aim is to encourage local artists and craftspeople to explore their creativity and showcase their talents.

To date we have held successful exhibitions of watercolours, acrylics, oils, pastels, drawings, prints, photography, ceramics, woodcraft and textiles, including patchwork and tapestries.  The Gallery provides the ideal opportunity for all artists – emerging or experienced, professional, amateur or student – to exhibit their work.

The Three Hares Art Gallery is situated on the top floor of the Museum and offers a light and airy exhibition space with plain white walls.  Three windows overlook the busy Market Place.  There is room to hang 50 works, depending on size, using our wire grid and hooks hanging system.  There is additional space on the stair landing area leading to the Gallery to hang further works. The Gallery has power points for additional lighting. There’s also room for a couple of easels and the use of of a secure tall glass cabinet for smaller items.

Exhibitions can be left unattended. There is state of the art CCTV throughout the Museum.

There is ready interest in our exhibitions, as well as sales of works on display.  Our visitors come from all over the UK and we also welcome many overseas visitors who are attracted by the life of John Newton and his penning of ‘Amazing Grace’.  As well as individuals, we also welcome tour groups and ensure that they have the opportunity to view the works in the Gallery during their visit.

The Three Hares Art Gallery offers a wonderful opportunity to promote and sell your work in an ideal exhibition space in a unique setting.  With its original floorboards and windows, the Gallery has an atmosphere and quirkiness all its own!
