Olney on Canvas is the title of our August exhibition in the Gallery.  Local resident and artist, Philip Compton Farquharson, shows his studies of local buildings, reflecting the unique character of this famous market town

Philip comes from an Art Historical background, and these studies, combined with his love of travel, have influenced his paintings both in subject-matter and style. For the current exhibit, ‘Olney on Canvas’, he has focussed on street scenes of primarily commercial properties in Olney and Yardley Hastings, two places with which he has a close affinity.

Street scenes and landscapes are his favourite subjects. He paints oil on canvass, or oil on recycled cardboard, where plastic plant labels are used instead of a brush, creating an impasto style.

He has had paintings shortlisted by the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, The Pastel Society, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, and has exhibited at the Royal College of Art through the National Open Art Competition.
