SUMMARY:Free talk with refreshments: Child Lace Workers and the Lace Schools with Marion Swindells
DESCRIPTION:Lace making was a key part of the town of Olney and the surrounding district for over 300 years. It was well established by the middle of the 17th century and continued as an important local industry until the start of the WW2.   Children were key workers in the lace industry often starting as young as 5 years old and working long hours. Every lace village and town had at least one and in many cases several lace schools. Our own museum was a lace school for a short period in the 19th century.\nJoin Marion Swindells for a fascinating talk on the lives of the ‘lace’ children of Olney and surrounding villages.  Marion, who has been interpreting the lace making story and exhibition in the museum, is a local history expert on this subject.\nFree refreshments provided and only standard garden admission applies. No admission charge for annual pass holders. We advise that you reserve a place by emailing us here: info@cowperandnewtonmuseum.org.uk ( mailto:info@cowperandnewtonmuseum.org.uk )\nPart of a summer programme supported by the Milton Keynes Community Foundation.\n\n
