SUMMARY:In Black and White 18th Century Silhouettes by Mike Rendell
DESCRIPTION:In Black and White 18th Century Silhouettes by Mike Rendell\nA Talk by Georgian Historian – Mike Rendell\n(Please note:  Talk to be held in The Olney Centre, MK46 4EF)\nIn Georgian Olney there was little money to splash the cash on a 5 guinea oil painting and the next best thing was often a silhouette likeness cut out for a few pence.\nFrom a silhouette costing pennies to the works of August Edouart who elevated these rather static images to an art form in Regency times, this talk traces the history of the silhouette and how paper cutting was imported by the Hanoverian Royal family.\nIt developed into a simple charming way of recording everyday life in a world before photography.\nBring your own scissors for a post-talk,  hands-on session to create your very own silhouette!\nYou will also learn of the amazing tale of Moses Williams linking the world of 18th Century slavery to silhouettes!\nVENUE:  The Olney Centre, Main Hall, Room 2 MK46 4EF\nTICKETS £5 to include refreshments. £6 on the night subject to availability.\n \n Book your ticket here!\n \n
