At Home with the Georgians! Family Fun Day in Olney

Come and join us to Relive Georgian life in Olney as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of our Cowper & Newton story
Immerse yourself in the life and past times of the Georgians. Take a guided tour with William Cowper, see demonstrations of Georgian cookery, learn a Georgian dance and promenade like a Georgian. Have a go at traditional crafts and see local experts in action. A full day of fascinating demonstrations, informative talks, entertaining children’s activities and sweet refreshment. You’ll feel right at home with the Georgians.
Here’s a taster of what is in store for our visitors

NEW THIS YEAR – Talks, Demonstrations & Activities in our 30 seater marquee in the Summer House Garden – every half hour from 11.00 until 3.30
- Georgian Cookery demonstrations: salads, medicine & decorations – 11.00, 1.00 & 2.00
The 18th century was a time of discovery and extravagance and especially within the kitchen! Come and meet our Georgian cook as she turns an ordinary dish into something spectacular, makes sure she has all the latest fashionable food colourings to hand, and how food can help with those who are feeling a little ‘under the weather’ or have over indulged.
- Bobbin Lace Making at 12.30
- Poetry Workshop – help us be inspired to create poems to describe the day and maybe enter our competition at 12.00 & 1.30
- Georgian Dress & Undress at 11.30 & 2.30
- Georgian Social Dancing at 3.15
- How to play the Dulcimer at 3.00
Guided Tours of the house at 11.00, 2.00 & 3.00 : At home with William & Mary

Refreshments in the Courtyard Marquee from 12.00
Join our Georgian Dancers of Amazing Grace – Demonstration in the Market Place at 12.00, 2.00 & 3.00 and take a lesson yourself in the Museum gardens
Splat the Rat and other ‘traditional’ games throughout the day
Printing & Crafts Activities and a Trail for the children throughout the day
Children’s Dressing Up & photograph: In Napoleon’s navy, a pirate on the 7 seas, Lord, Lady or Olney trades … throughout the day
Become a member of the Knitting Circle – just how do you knit on needles in the round? – throughout the day
Traditional bee skep making – throughout the day
The Mysteries of Georgian Glass – find out more & try the quiz throughout the day

Event price: Free for visitors with an Annual Pass or when paying for entry to the Museum & Gardens on the day. £2.00 for children 15 and under
